About Stephanie Gilfeather
Stephanie Gilfeather is an Indirect Tax Director at Expedia. She manages both controversy and tax policy for a variety of issues, but specifically on the global trend of making marketplace platforms responsible for tax on transactions taking place on their platform. Her focus is on US indirect tax and global occupancy taxes. She previously was the first tax person at Instacart handling various complex indirect tax issues as well as any other tax issues that arose. Prior to Instacart, Stephanie worked at Deloitte\'s indirect tax practice in San Francisco focusing on the technology industry. She has worked with sales & use taxes administered across 45 states, as well as gross receipt taxes, telecommunications taxes, and other miscellaneous taxes imposed by state and local jurisdictions. Because she specializes in the technology industry, Stephanie is on the forefront of emerging issues, such as state\'s responses to the Wayfair decision, adoption of marketplace facilitator collections responses, and proper characterization of products and services in order to determine state-by-state taxabiliy. Stephanie has experience working both at the Washington Department of Revenue and the city of Seattle\'s Department of Finance & Administrative Services as well as for Washington States Senate Ways & Means Committee, which means she is also familar with Washington State\'s unique taxing system, including the business & occupation (\"B&O\") tax, real estate excise tax, and the public utility tax amonst others.
