Engineering Manager @DeepL

Current Focus: Built and currently lead a new team of Senior and Staff engineers designed to fix technical problems or new requests that block enterprise deals. My main focus has been creating a structure where the team can move fast without burning out. Since we operate without a Product Manager in this team, I step in to handle planning and strategy myself, ensuring my team always has high impact work. We have successfully unblocked enterprise deal pipeline and launched major integrations. I work directly with Account Executives and Sales teams to understand customer needs and unblock the deal pipeline. A big highlight for me was mentoring a Senior Engineer to get promoted to Staff Engineer by helping him lead these complex projects.Previous Focus: For a year, I led the Monetization team of 9 people independently during a high pressure migration project. When I joined, the team was facing burnout, so I focused on listening to them and rebuilding trust. I introduced the \"Day-Watch\" system to share the workload of alerts evenly, which reduced stress and was eventually adopted by four other teams because it worked so well. I prioritised team\'s growth, successfully coaching a Senior Engineer to become an Engineering Manager. On the technical side, these changes helped us improve our response times and deliver critical projects launch on time.

ABOUT ŞEYDA BORA BENZER

As an Engineering Manager at DeepL, my focus is on people. Throughout my 14+ years in tech, from my early days as an engineer to my time as a CTO, I\'ve learned one crucial lesson: the foundation of any great product is a supportive and sustainable team culture. That passion for creating a better, less stressful environment extends beyond my work. I wrote \"Meal Prep, Managed\" because I genuinely wanted to solve a common problem for myself and others: how to eat well without the chaos after work. It’s my take on how a little planning can make a big difference.Whether it\'s in engineering or the kitchen, I\'m driven by helping people thrive. Let\'s connect and chat about building great things, be it software, teams, or even just a great weekly menu!My book is available on Amazon:
