About Seungkyu Kim

Hello everybody, I am here in Toronto, Canada and looking for a job in the Networking market. What is the most important thing in your career? I would like to talk about the question first. Usually, people mentioned salary, achievement, fame and so on. In my case, it is GROWing. There are still so many things I can learn and I am a person who enjoy learning. This attitude makes me grow in my career. If I say I had a successful career in South Korea, it is because I was a learner. I am not sure whether I am good or not in Canada, but I am sure that I will learn like a sponge absorbs water, then I will have a SUCCESSFUL career again in Canada. I was a network engineer in South Korea and worked for LG Group, especially LG Electronics and LG CNS. My duties were doing everything for LGE network environment. It includes such as analyzing, designing, deploying, optimizing, troubleshooting LGE network. It happened in offices, R&D centers, factories, and data centers. And I covered everything related to the LGE network such as network devices, routing protocol, switch loop-free, wireless, wireless IPS, fiber connection, redundancy, capacity, rack design, cabling, UPS, circuit breaker, conditioning equipment, etc. I also collaborated with others like servers, developers, API, CCTV, VoIP, MDM. Additionally, I was in charge of maintaining and replacing the Service Provider for LG Group and clients in LG CNS datacenters. It covered about 300 companies throughout South Korea and required high-end routing like MPLS VPN, LDP, BGP, OSPF, BFD. I successfully performed with zero downtime under pressure. My first company, Snet Systems, was a spin-off from SAMSUNG Electronics. In the company, I had a chance to be done all different projects. I started with Routing and Switching project and proceeded to ASA BMT and deployment, then performed Analog to VoIP migration project for 700 users. Lastly, I successfully finished a large broadcasting production network project with a wide range of Cisco products, Nexus 7K, Catalyst 3K, 2K, wireless controller, access point. It was not an only hard time for me but also it was the best time for me to have practical experience. I think I was fortunate because I had a chance to study networking when I was a university student and it made me a network engineer afterward. I had an interest in computing and programming, but Computer Networking is a whole new world to me. At that time, I got the momentum to study networking in-depth and laid the network foundations. These skills, programming and networking will be combined. Thanks
