ABOUT SEUN OSONUGA

Currently pursuing a doctorate in energy engineering on an interesting subject that integrates open data, the energy transition, and different stakeholder perspectives, I am committed to contributing to the energy transition throughout my career. Before I started on this journey of energy science, I worked as a management consultant for about 4 years in Nigeria. During my career as a consultant, I worked mostly in the public health and development sectors on projects involving institutional capacity building, project management, strategy development, and data-driven decision making. My time at as a consultant allowed me to sharpen my client management, modelling (financial and quantitative), communication, and problem-solving skills. Following the exciting work in the public health space that culminated in being part of the team that led Nigeria to be declared polio-free in July 2020, I commenced an EIT InnoEnergy double master’s degree in Energy Technologies which allowed me to study Energy Engineering and Management as well as Fluid Mechanics and Energetics. This afforded me the opportunity to study at two of the best engineering universities in Europe: Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon and Institut Polytechnique, Grenoble. I am currently pursuing a doctorate in methods, organisation, and tools for open and participative science for an energy transition observatory. As part of my research, I am investigating the value that businesses, researchers, regulators, governments, and individual citizens can realise from open energy datasets as they work towards the necessary energy transition. I am also exploring the technical, social, and legal aspects of putting energy data in open access. Passionate about giving back to whatever community I live in, I have volunteered in almost every city I have lived in during my adult life in various capacities including events manager, outreach coordinator, and CV writer. These varied experiences have allowed me to make life-long friends as well as tackle problems that I would not otherwise have faced. Having lived in Ghana, Nigeria, Portugal, and France over the past 10 years, I love to explore rhythmic music across genres and even languages. In my downtime when I am not listening to one of my eclectic playlists, you’ll probably catch me watching a Manchester United game or trying out one of my current pastimes (the most recent being snowboarding) Please feel free to get in touch to discuss open data, the energy transition, or interesting energy start-up ideas.
