About Seth Gordon
I am an urban planning professional and David Bohnett Fellow currently pursuing my Master of Urban Planning (MUP) at NYU Wagner, specializing in Community and City Planning. My work is driven by a commitment to creating more sustainable, equitable, and participatory urban environments. Currently, I serve as a Circular Economy Research for Public Good Scholar with Town+Gown:NYC at the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC). In this role, I leverage ArcGIS and R to analyze and map waste management policies and adaptive-reuse opportunities for construction and demolition materials within New York City’s Industrial Business Zones (IBZs). By bridging the gap between data-driven research and land-use policy, I aim to foster a more resilient circular economy for the city. My foundation in planning is built on years of \"boots on the ground\" experience in grassroots non-profits and political campaigns. From managing stakeholder engagement and development at The Family Center to drafting transit and infrastructure policy proposals for local campaigns, I have seen how effective communication and community-led advocacy are essential to successful planning outcomes.I believe that the most resilient urban solutions come from collective intelligence—a concept I often summarize through the \"jelly bean phenomenon.\" Just as the average of many guesses leads to the most accurate answer, I believe a democratic future depends on a planning process where every member of society is integral to decision-making. I am dedicated to a career in urban governance that empowers communities to shape the future of their own neighborhoods.
