ABOUT SERGIO MONTIEL

I am a Barrett Honors student at Arizona State University majoring in Political Science, while also pursuing certificates in Cross-Sector Leadership through the Next Generation Service Corps and Business Data Analytics through the W. P. Carey School of Business. My experience at ASU centers on leadership, service, and community impact. I have been actively involved in student government, campus initiatives, and academic enrichment programs designed to strengthen civic engagement and support diverse student communities. Through organizations such as Civic Influencers and TRIO I have worked on mentorship, educational access, and civic participation efforts that empower underrepresented students.I am also the founder and lead organizer of Hearts of Hope, a nonprofit initiative I launched to support children in hospitals. I design, assemble, and donate creative learning kits—such as coloring books, storybooks, bookmarks, and crayons—to young patients, including those at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. In this role, I manage fundraising, volunteer coordination, partnerships, budgeting, and the delivery of materials, ensuring that each kit brings joy, comfort, and encouragement to children and their families during challenging moments.Beyond my campus involvement, I have represented my community at the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) Conference in Chicago, engaging with national leaders committed to advancing equity and opportunity for Latino communities. I was also selected for the Aspire Leaders Program, a global leadership initiative founded at Harvard University that prepares emerging leaders to create ethical, inclusive, and innovative change across sectors.
