About Sereen Assi
As a bioengineering Ph.D. candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, I am dedicated to advancing the field of tissue engineering and creating innovations that restore and rehabilitate body function. I have a bachelor\'s degree in bioengineering and biomedical engineering from the University of Rochester, and I have studied abroad at the University of Sydney and Birzeit University. My current research focuses on identifying key differences in behavior within cell populations in the knee meniscus, using mechanobiology, biomechanics, and tissue engineering tools. This has implications for developing therapeutic interventions for functional meniscus regeneration, which is a major challenge in orthopedic medicine. I have also gained hands-on lab experience in cell culture, 3D printing, protein isolation, and RT-PCR as a research assistant at the Awad Lab at the University of Rochester. I am passionate about applying my skills and knowledge in pre-clinical studies to address real-world problems and improve the quality of life for patients post-injury.
