ABOUT SENTHIL NATESAN

My self actively involved in the development of fourteen crop varieties in various crops. Involvement in millet breeding programme leads to the development of seven high yielding millet varieties (Ragi CO(Ra)14,(ATL1), Samai CO(Samai) 4, ATL1, and Kudaraivali (CO(Kv) 2), and Foxtail millet CO(Te) 7, ATL1 three tropical wheat varieties( CO(W)1, COW2, COW3) and three vigna varieties ( Vamban3, Vamban 6 and Vamban7) for cultivation in Tamil Nadu. The various millet varieties and created an impact in the expansion of area under minor millet in Elagiri hills, Vellore, and Dharmapuri districts of Tamil Nadu. Carrier training through STA Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Japan resulted in the development of high beta carotene maize inbreds (UMI1230β+-1 UMI1200 β+-2) through Marker Assisted Breeding. The first time elucidated the genetic basis of grain dispersal mechanisms in Barley which is published in the Journal “CELL” during 2015 which lead to the Best Scientist Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu during 2016. My publication has been indexed in Google Scholar with an H index of 26 and i10 index of 67 and Scopus index of 14. More than 40 of my research papers are highly rated, Scopus indexed published in international journals. Developed an interspecific SNP-based Mungbean linkage map for mapping MYMV and bruchid resistance. I have submitted various kinds of sequence data in NCBI viz, ESTs, raw transcriptome data, Sequence Read Archives (SRA) in Barnyard millet, Cassava, Mungbean, and Pearl millet. I have guided fifteen master students and 7 doctoral students in various areas of molecular breeding research. I have written five textbooks for the benefit of undergraduate students of agriculture. Responsible for the establishment of Molecular biology lab, Tissue culture lab, Metabolomics lab at Centre of Innovation, AC & RI, Madurai with the cost of 6.03 crore to take up multidisciplinary research during 2014-18.Innovative techniques have been introduced to improve teaching by way of the development of educational videos which are hosted in YouTube channels as Virtual Technology Videos.
