The Museum on Main Street (MoMS) program is Smithsonian Travelling Exhibition Service its “key initiative that directly engages small town audiences and brings revitalized attention to underserved rural communities through their own Main Street museums, historical societies and other cultural venues.” By developing partnerships with state humanities councils and local institutions, the MoMS program is able to send Smithsonian travelling exhibitions to small towns across America. By generating grassroots engagement this program is able to engage with communities and help them appreciate the value and importance of their history, culture and people. MoMS functions as a tool to generate a pride for local culture.
