When I earned my M.A. in I/O Psychology, it gave me the theoretical foundation for what I had already been diagnosing in practice: organizations fail not because their people are wrong, but because their systems were never designed to survive the people changing.That insight became Association Architecture — the governing discipline I originated that aligns four systems most associations treat as separate: Leadership & Governance, Operations & Execution, Member Experience & Value Delivery, and Institutional Memory & Continuity. When these four systems are designed together, the organization becomes stable, transferable, and scalable — regardless of who leads it.Here is the simplest test I can offer: if your next board transition requires more than a briefing document and a 90-day onboarding calendar, your organization is running on people, not architecture.
