An initiative set up to to help welcome refugees to Glasgow in true weegie style. Founded in December 2015, Refuweegee has already distributed 115 welcome packs to people arriving in the city. The new hybrid word ‘refuweegee’ is defined on our website as “A person who upon arriving in Glasgow is embraced by the people of the city, a person considered to be a local.” We encourage locals to actively engage with arriving refugees, by donating to bespoke welcome packs. As well as items of use, these packs include items relating to Glasgow and hand-written letters from people who live in the city. Toiletries, blankets, umbrellas, Scottish merchandise, and heart-felt letters have been pouring in, to be delivered to those arriving in Glasgow as their new home.
