ABOUT SELENE TOGNARELLI

My passion for medicine and engineer drew me to biomedical engineer and biorobotics and it brought me to my current position at the BioRobotics Institute where I\'m now in a Technologist position. I joined the Scuola Superiore Sant\'Anna in Pisa in 2006, focusing my activity on medical robotics and biomechatronic systems. I received my bachelor and M.Sc. degree (magna cum Laude) in biomedical engineering at the University of Pisa, Italy, discussing a master thesis about an experimental study of foetal cardiac tissue mechanical properties. In 2011, I obtained a PhD degree in Innovative Technologies of Info. & Com. Eng. and Robotics, Curriculum: Bio-Robotics at The BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and I started my post doc activities in the same year. My main research interests are in the field of biorobotics and minimally invasive robotic surgery: endoscopic capsule development for gastro-intestinal monitoring, minimally invasive surgical robot-concept and design, minimally invasive retraction system and sensorised mechatronic device. During my PhD, I spent a period as visiting researcher at Nanorobotic Laboratory of the École Polytechnique de Montréal (Canada) where I was involved with NanoRobotique team in a national project about ferromagnetic catheter using MRI gradients. I was in touch with several researchers from Europe and USA and I was involved in several shared activities between research groups that gave me the opportunity to improve my personal and technical skills. I\'m the main author of several breakthrough papers in the field of minimally invasive robotic surgery in top ISI journals and international robotics conferences and I\'m also inventor of 2 national and international patents. In 2013 I attended an executive Master in Project Management for improving my expertises also in the management field and thanks to this, I was and I\'m currently involved in the management of national and international project as Project Manager.
