ABOUT SÉBASTIEN METZ

What I do:1- I turn data into stories, using various methods: statistics, econometry, geographic information system. Mostly fisheries related data, but I\'ve been involved in other sectors.2- I\'m gathering information by interviewing stakeholders: scientists, civil servants, traders, end-consumers. In data poor situations, these interviews are invaluable insights to gain a better understanding of the business landscape.3- I\'m designing and programming interfaces: huge datasets in the background, clear and concise interface for the decision-maker (fishermen, business manager or policy-maker). It can be a simple graph build with two indicators, an excel spreadsheet or a complex website. Sometimes I\'m the interface. In the end, my clients have a better understanding of their business without churning tons of data and/or talking to a lot of stakeholders.Which sectors- Fisheries, aquaculture and more generally exploitation of natural resources- Environmental services (water, sustainability, biofuels, nanotechnologies.)- Biotechnologies (more specifically blue biotech);Which ingredients for my recipes- strong project management skills- socio-economic analysis and decision tools (sectoral analysis, impact assessment, cost effectiveness analysis, cost-benefit analysis, multi-criteria analysis.)- modelling techniques (economic, bio-economic, game theory.)- quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis (econometrics, time series analysis, multivariate analysis.)- data visualisation- French (native) and English (fluent), distant memory of German and Spanish.
