Large R&D projectsIn Jan 2024 I launched Meetween, an EU RIA which I coordinate, 7M€, 4 years, dedicated to foundation models for speech, applied to videoconferencing, with Zoom as the application partner.In 2022 we became part of DataTools4Heart, a 4y, 8M€ RIA project. We develop NLP and privacy-preserving ML methods to support clinical cardiology use cases. Translated is one of the worldwide largest online platforms for professional translation. Since we have carried out over a million translations in 100+ languages, for 100k customers, with our network of 250k professional translators. We believe in technology, and that\'s why AI and machine learning are an integral part of our approach, to the advantage of both our customers and our translators.Translated is part of Pi Campus, a venture fund and startup district ( ) located in Rome, Italy. As Translated\'s Director of AI, I am responsible for several core technology projects on Translated\'s platform, in which machine learning delivers business value.

ABOUT SÉBASTIEN BRATIÈRES
My goal is to push projects through the science - technology - product - market path, in my area of expertise, machine intelligence. I build and grow teams and activities with a scientific focus on machine learning applied to language. I generate income both directly through sales and grants, and indirectly by delivering technology for products.I currently do this as the Director of AI at Translated, a technology-intensive player in the translation and localisation industry, where I lead the AI team. Translated is part of the startup district and venture fund Pi Campus, in Rome, Italy, where I am the Managing Director of Pi School, its AI education arm. I regularly speak at international events. I review for NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR.After taking an Ingénieur degree from Ecole Centrale Paris, and an MPhil in computer speech and language processing from the University of Cambridge, I spent 16 years in the speech and language industry in different European ventures, starting from the EU branch of Tellme Networks (now Microsoft) to startups in speech recognition and virtual conversational agents. Moving on to machine learning and AI applications more broadly, I took a PhD in probabilistic machine learning with Zoubin Ghahramani at the University of Cambridge, UK.
