The ElbX project is a 5.2 km long tunnel project which will be located about 20 m under the river Elbe. The tunnel leads from Wewelsfleth to near Wischhafen. The excavation pits for the shafts must be made watertight, stable and flood-proof with up to 50 m deep diaphragm walls before excavation – a demanding project. The ElbX project is part of the SuedLink project. With a length of around 700 kilometers and a transmission capacity of four gigawatts, SuedLink is a central infrastructure project of the energy transition in Germany.
