ABOUT SEBASTIAN M ALVARENGA
As an Indigenous student from the inner city, I grew up without the academic support many others take for granted. Subjects like Mathematics were a challenge, and constant setbacks left me feeling discouraged. That began to change when I discovered programming; a field that demanded creativity, resilience, and critical thinking. It sparked a passion in me that continues to fuel my growth today.I’ve since turned that passion into a profession. After completing two internships at Oracle NetSuite, I was hired full-time as a Global Improvement Engineer, where I focus on improving internal NetSuite processes across teams and systems. Despite not coming from a traditional business background, I quickly adapted, learned the language of business and operations, and found ways to simplify complex processes. My goal is always to make not just my role, but the roles of those around me, easier and more efficient.To me, coding and systems thinking are not just technical skill: they’re tools for empowerment. I see my work as a way to open doors for others like me, proving that with perseverance and opportunity, we can succeed and help reshape the spaces we enter.
