About Sebastian Guth

I firmly believe that experiences shape our views and create beliefs that drive our actions. From a young age, I was fascinated by life sciences. As I grew older, this passion turned into a desire to help people live healthy, fulfilling lives. It’s a deeply personal mission. As a child, I saw my younger brother struggle with a condition that limited his ability to walk. Years later, I watched my father battle and lose to lung cancer. These experiences taught me that patients are people first, and they must be at the center of our work in the pharmaceutical industry. My personal experiences also shaped my views on leadership. Early in my career, I helped launch a tech start-up that failed. This taught me the importance of shared goals and the power of a unified team. I have lived and worked in various countries – from Germany to Malaysia to Turkey to Japan and now the U.S. Each has a unique culture and way of working. Leading businesses through transformation in these diverse settings taught me the value of listening, vulnerability and transparency. I also learned the importance of enabling teams across layers, functions, and geographies toward a shared vision. As chief operating officer of Bayer Pharmaceuticals, I am responsible for worldwide business operations. What matters most to me is serving people in need and supporting our communities. Together with more than collaborators worldwide, I am driven to build the most vibrant and successful life science company rooted in purpose and innovation. As President of Bayer U.S, I am committed to improving the lives of Americans by addressing their basic needs for nutritious foods and quality healthcare.
