ABOUT SEBASTIAN GARDE

With more than two decades in Health Informatics, I work at the intersection of clinical practice and digital innovation - ensuring that technology genuinely supports the people delivering and receiving care.As Product Lead for the openEHR Clinical Knowledge Manager (CKM), I focus on turning robust, standards‑based ideas into practical, scalable solutions. I contribute to the stewardship and evolution of openEHR through my roles on the Specifications Editorial Committee (SEC) and the Clinical Program Board (CPB), helping shape the models and standards that underpin safe, interoperable healthcare systems.I hold a doctoral degree (Dr. sc. hum.) in Medical Informatics from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and am a Foundation Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (FAIDH). Over the years, I have contributed to numerous Health IT projects across universities and clinical centres in Germany and Australia, always with the aim of bridging the gap between clinical practice and digital systems.More than ever, I am driven by the conviction that AI in a domain as complex as healthcare can only be safe and effective when built on trustworthy, semantically rich clinical data models. This is exactly what the openEHR standards and the Clinical Knowledge Manager are set up to provide. At heart, I am passionate about making health compute - but equally committed to ensuring that technology never overshadows the profoundly human nature of healthcare.
