About Sean Cook
I grow companies and create shareholder value. From founding Media Arts in 1991 (a film and video production company that was acquired by Paramount Pictures), to launching ShopVisible (a beta-stage digital commerce solution for online retailers) as CEO and selling it to Epicor at an above-market multiple 9 years later, to playing a critical role in Mailchimp’s growth from $350 million to $1+ billion in 5 years and a $12 billion acquisition by Intuit, I have consistently taken companies to new revenue and valuation thresholds.I’m currently focused on board, advisory, and consulting roles. I work with the VC team at Atlanta’s Valor Ventures on seed-stage SaaS investments and with founders at Spain’s Decelera Ventures, which invests in and advises sustainable tech companies, on early-stage lifecycle challenges and opportunities, and building growth engines. In addition to serving on ShopVisible’s board for 9 years, I recently served on 2 nonprofit organization boards. Most recently, I played a critical role on the leadership team that tripled Mailchimp’s value in 5 years. During that time, I created global product and marketing partnerships that drove the company’s transformation from an email platform to a comprehensive, automated marketing platform; launched Mailchimp & Co, a marketplace community for marketing services providers that ultimately generated 15% of the company’s revenue; and built content channels that taught 14 million users how to build automated growth engines for their marketing. Prior to Mailchimp, as CEO, I led ShopVisible from the launch of its beta-stage e-commerce platform to competing directly with IBM WebSphere Commerce, SAP Hybris, and Oracle Commerce. Under my leadership, the company won customers that included Office Depot, 3M, Abbott Laboratories, Blue Mercury and Tempur-Pedic. Outreach for partnership discussions with Epicor, a $1 billion+ retail POS solutions provider, resulted in ShopVisible’s acquisition at an above-market multiple. My early career involved general management and marketing roles in technology and visual arts companies. That background continues to inform my approach to telling my brands’ stories and inspiring customers and other stakeholders to join the journey. I have an MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and bachelor’s degrees in economics and art history, also from Emory. My wife, Martha, and I live in Atlanta with our 2 Labradors, Lambeau and Roy, and enjoy traveling as often as possible with our adult children.Let’s talk!
