Sean Stadler, FAIA, is a Design and Managing Principal at WDG, where he leads the planning and design of a diverse array of projects. Through his work, he significantly bolsters WDG’s reputation as a leader in sustainable development, striving to make a lasting impact on the architectural landscape.With a diverse portfolio that includes commercial, residential, hospitality, and civic projects, Sean specializes in mixed-use developments, adaptive reuse, and historic preservation. His award-winning work includes the AC Marriott, which has received significant recognition from AIA|DC, AIA Virginia, and AIA Northern Virginia. Other distinguished projects include the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, honored with multiple accolades such as the AIA Chicago Design Excellence Award, and West End Square 50, which received an AIA|DC Design Award for Merit in Architecture.He has been featured in various publications, including an interview in Architecture DC titled “Boxed Up and Ready to Go,” where he discussed the West End Square 50 project. He has also appeared in articles in the Washington Business Journal, is included in Becoming an Architect, Third Edition by Lee W. Waldrep, Ph.D, and was profiled in Building Design + Construction’s “40 Under 40” and ARCHITECT’s “2011 Emerging Talent.” In 2020, he was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows, recognizing his significant contributions to the profession.Additionally, he has served as a keynote speaker and moderated panels at events like the Bisnow Multifamily Annual Conference, where he addressed design trends and the impact of hospitality on multifamily projects.    Mr. Stadler is a Managing Principal of WDG where he focusing on elevating the firm’s stature in design, with particular emphasis on enhancing the civic realm. He is directly responsible for leading the planning, re-zoning and design of complex, high-profile urban projects, bolstering WDG’s reputation for designing sustainable and distinctive, mid- and high-rise structures with contemporary urban sensitivity. Mr. Stadler’s diverse experience includes commercial, residential, hospitality, educational, and sporting facilities.Sean holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Architecture from Kent State University. An active member of the design community, Mr. Stadler has been a panel speaker, moderator, and presenter at events such as the AIA National Convention; he has served as an awards juror for programs such as the AIA Institute Honors and Awards; and he has frequently served as a design critic for both Kent State and the Catholic University of America’s Architecture Schools. Sean is currently serving on the AIA|DC Board of Directors and Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design’s Professional Advisory Board. Sean has also served as the chairman of the AIA National Young Architects Forum (YAF) and the Intern/Associate Committee (NAC). Mr. Stadler was honored in Cleveland with an AIA Presidents Award and was selected as one of Building Design + Construction magazine’s winners of the 2009 “40 Under 40” competition and is a recipient of the 2011 AIA Young Architects award where the jury noted “he is a unique individual of outstanding talent and clear commitment.”
