About Sean Bips

Sean is a chef instructor, hospitality professor, career coach, and global event planner. Sean has been planning events and teaching hospitality & culinary arts for over 15 years in the United States and across Europe. He is confident in his ability to effectively plan and manage events of any size, in any location and achieve all desired outcomes.Sean Bips holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management from Penn State University, an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and a dual Executive MBA degree from The European Business School in Wiesbaden, Germany, and Durham University in Great Britain. He is currently completing his PhD in Hospitality Management at Iowa State University. With over 25 years of extensive experience in the hospitality and tourism industry across the United States and Europe, Sean has held a variety of managerial roles with a focus on food and beverage operations and meeting planning. His career includes serving as Global Account Manager at HelmsBriscoe while based in Germany. He has also worked in sales and procurement for Maritz Global Events and served as a Global Accounts Manager at ConferenceDirect for several years.Sean has managed high-profile events such as the United Nations General Assembly at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. He gained valuable experience working alongside Chef Gordon Ramsay at the London NYC Hotel, where he oversaw all banquet and in-suite dining events for VIP guests. Throughout his career, he has held numerous leadership positions including Banquet Manager, Restaurant Manager, Bar Manager, Private Dining Manager, and In-Suite Event Sales Manager at various luxury hotels. Additionally, he served as Director of Marketing and Sales for TravelClick in Frankfurt, Germany. Sean’s teaching career began in Wiesbaden, Germany, instructing Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Management courses for Central Texas College, supporting U.S. military students. He later served as Associate Director of Hospitality and Culinary Arts at Stratford University in Virginia, where he co-created the world-record-holding giant pyramid cake and led a fundraising event that raised over for U.S. military personnel. Currently, he is the Department Chair of Hospitality, Recreation, Tourism Management, and Culinary Arts at Ocean County College. Under his leadership, the program has experienced consistent growth, and he recently developed a culinary curriculum featuring a fresh herb garden cultivated through hydroponics.

   Professor Bips joined the Ocean County College and Kean University academic team in January 2018. His educational background consists of a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management from the Pennsylvania State University, an Associate degree in Culinary Arts from the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park, New York, and a dual Executive MBA from The European Business School in Germany as well as Durham Business School in the U.K.Professor Bips has held various hospitality managerial positions throughout the United States and Europe with a primary focus on food and beverage operations and private event meeting planning. In 2005 and 2006, Professor Bips ran the United Nations General Assembly event at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. He has also worked for Mr. Gordon Ramsay at the London NYC Hotel, overseeing all banquet and in-suite dining events.
