As a Senior Software Engineer, I focus on delivering high-quality video playback experiences across smart TV platforms like Samsung, LG, and Vizio—reaching 100k+ users. Though my role is technical and individual contributor-focused, I frequently act as a tech lead across initiatives, supporting teammates and shaping architectural decisions. My primary work involves improving video quality, buffering stability, load times, and error resilience using open-source players such as Shaka and HLS.js. A key project I led was our migration from native players to a centralized MSE-based solution—paving the way for a unified packaging pipeline and reducing platform-specific maintenance costs.I’ve also built internal tooling to accelerate development, streamline platform-specific testing, and automate debugging across multiple environments. To support ongoing quality efforts, I’ve instrumented detailed playback metrics in Datadog, adding new data dimensions that help us track progress and make informed engineering decisions.Beyond playback, I’ve contributed to large-scale efforts like migrating from Redux to an in-house state management system, rewriting player controls, and continuously improving our development processes. I work closely with the Ads team and fellow playback engineers to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions across our stack. What drives me is building reliable, efficient systems—and empowering others to do the same through thoughtful tooling and collaboration.

ABOUT SEAN BECKER

I’m a Senior Software Engineer with nearly a decade of hands-on experience, starting in high school and continuing through a Computer Science degree at Purdue. I’ve worked across startups, enterprise IT, and high-traffic consumer platforms—building scalable, maintainable systems and delivering real-world impact. While I currently specialize in high-performance video playback for Smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Vizio), my background is deeply full-stack. I’ve led frontend architecture projects, built authentication packages, contributed to backend systems in Go, and shipped production-ready microservices on GCP. I played a key role in launching sportsbook platforms in regulated markets, and helped scale engineering teams through active involvement in hiring and mentorship. From migrating native players to a centralized MSE-based solution to introducing Datadog instrumentation that enabled data-driven playback improvements, I aim to build systems that are stable, debuggable, and developer-friendly. Whether it’s frontend, backend, infrastructure, or team processes—I focus on solving problems in ways that scale.
