About Sean-David McGoran

For over seventeen years I have coupled passion, subject matter expertise, and care for students together in encouraging students to fully engage curriculum and the classroom community (online for face to face) in a way that leads to effective learning and application, increased involvement, and retention.I understand the unique needs of students. I am a practitioner and professor, not only have I consistently engaged as an adjunct faculty member for the better part of 17 years, but I have also served continually and faithfully in local community organizations and started two of my own. I know what it takes to apply the principles of education, service, leadership, and community building. My doctoral work centered around developing an advisory board for a local non-profit music academy that would serve the community. The academy today serves nearly five hundred students on a weekly basis in the Olympia and Seattle areas and around the world virtually. My education includes a Professional Diploma from Berklee College of Music, a Master\'s of Arts in Religion, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctor of Ministry (which is really a leadership degree). Connect with me today to discover how I can help your institution or organization reach its goals in developing leaders.

    The Tuned In Academy

Jan 2013 — Present · Olympia, WA, US

The Tuned In Academy is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit music academy • Led the academy from start-up as a self-funded operation to a fully insured non-profit academy serving nearly four hundred enrolled students.• Successfully managed constant enrollments and scheduling for nearly four hundred students and nineteen faculty, without issue. • Directed the launch of new programs for instrumental music, vocal music, adult musical enrichment courses, guitar, drums, brass, woodwind, ukulele, and songwriting. Interviewed, recruited, and leads a team of ten faculty and two admin members.• Successfully trained hundreds of students from beginner to proficient level on piano, trumpet, trombone, flute, saxophone, euphonium, clarinet, recorder, and percussion.• Developed a system that educates and motivates students to learn and grow in a working knowledge of foundational music with over 60% of the academy students have a complete working knowledge of all 48 major, minor, melodic minor, and harmonic minor scales and keys, in the circle of fifths, and most within a year or less of study.• Successfully mitigated fallout from the Covid-19 outbreak as director. Facilitated a transition to completely virtual music education through online platforms before the shelter in place order was given with less than a 5% loss of students in the transition. As an educator, developed several free Google Hangouts to foster community, encourage practice over the pandemic situation, and reach out to new students. The academy also enrolled many new virtual students during this time and nearly doubled in size.• Used the virtual shift to develop new ways to reach out to students and enhance musical instruction and engagement.
