ABOUT SEAN RAMOS-IZQUIERDO
My path to becoming a counselor was not accidental — it was personal.Having witnessed firsthand how both harmful and healing counseling experiences can be, I knew early on that I wanted to be part of the change. I entered this field with a deep belief that therapy genuinely works, and an even deeper commitment to making sure every person I work with feels seen, respected, and cared for in the way they deserve.I recently completed my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Graduate School at Northwestern University, building on a foundation rooted in psychology, sociology, and a lifelong curiosity about the human experience. I began my academic journey at the University of Pittsburgh, where I earned my B.S. in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Political Science with a focus in International Relations — disciplines that continue to inform the way I understand people and the world they navigate.I currently hold two clinical roles that reflect the full spectrum of my commitment to this work. As a Master\'s Level Clinician at Makin Wellness, I work with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and trauma, drawing from multiple therapeutic frameworks to meet each client where they are. Simultaneously, I serve as a Milieu Therapist II at UPMC Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic on the Integrated Aging and Health Program (IHAP), where I facilitate group therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Life Coping Skills. In this role, I also provide hands-on patient care and have had the opportunity to work across multiple specialized floors, including child and adolescent psychiatry and dual-diagnosis treatment. The combination of these experiences has grounded me in both the clinical and deeply human sides of mental health care — and I would not trade that for anything.I am actively working toward licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania, with a commitment to providing compassionate, individualized care to every person I have the privilege of serving. At the heart of my work is a simple belief — that compassionate, authentic care can change lives. I am here to be proof of that.
