ABOUT SEAN OBRIEN

With 37 years of dedicated service in law enforcement, I currently serve as a Sergeant in the Technological Integration Section at the Toronto Police College. In this role, I lead initiatives to integrate advanced technologies into our policing practices, including researching and recommending innovations such as body-worn cameras, digital evidence management systems, virtual reality training, and e-learning projects.Throughout my career, I\'ve played a major role in significant advancements within the Toronto Police Service. Early on, I was involved in implementing the Service\'s first computerized records management system and developing early intervention systems in our Professional Standards Unit. Notably, I led the Service-wide deployment of body-worn cameras, earning the Chief\'s Award of Excellence in 2023. Additionally, I am listed as the inventor on a patent held by Axon International for a body camera mount which I invented and co-designed with Axon.My career has been diverse, with roles including patrol officer, traffic investigator, forensic computer investigator, and detective in the Professional Standards Unit. At the Toronto Police College, I\'ve serve as an instructor, LMS administrator, e-learning designer, and project manager for many technologies that are affecting policing. I still perform uniform duties as a supervisor with the Public Order Unit, managing frontline officers at events requiring public order management.I firmly believe that integrity is demonstrated by actions taken when no one is watching. In my current role, I am committed to leveraging technology to return patrol hours to the public and investigative hours to crime victims, ensuring they receive the dedicated service they deserve.
