ABOUT SEAN MIZEN

After leaving school in I started my career as a scaffolder, I had close friends and relatives who were in the same line of work who were successful either built up their own company or working overseas on larger contracts. After nearly 2 years leading up to my part 2 scaffolding certificate I decided it wasn\'t for me. I then moved to Pyeroy (Wood) as a trainee asbestos operative - Pyeroy at the time was a muliti-trade company who also offered scaffolding, blasting and construction work as an optional extra if workload was low with asbestos which I seen as a potential development asset to become multiskilled. I worked my way up from trainee to offshore supervisor within several years experiencing all industries from residential to power stations to then the oil and gas sector. during my time travelling up to aberdeen I was offered a full time position at sullom Voe terminal shetlands where I found my new life and home based in Aberdeenshire. After a year or 2 the contract we had with BP at sullom Voe came to a sudden end due to the 2015 downturn which forced my decision to part ways with Wood due to my new life in Aberdeen and lack of work in that region. After finding it very difficult to source work with my experience and contacts all being down south I was offered an small opportunity with a local office furniture company (Aberdeen Office Supplies) this give me the opportunity to speak with local company\'s in the area and sell myself as a potential employee, showing polightness and hard work on the job itself but also explaining my career to date. I fortunately landed an great position at Sparrows offshore based in bridge of don Aberdeen as the facilities point of contact and supervisor of the companies trainee. The position was well suited to my previous experiences which included joinery, data cabling, painting, driving and liaising with contractors across Aberdeen. In my time at Sparrows there was interest for me to develop a new career offshore with the inspection department, Lifting gear, rope access and NDT. I took the opportunity and thrived over 5 years experiencing all types of assets across the globe eventually making it to a supervisory position. Having 2 young girls in my family, the demand for me to be home more regular was starting to affect my mindset whilst working overseas, at times I could be away for months at a time and only coming home for short stays. In November 2023 I was offered a deck crew position in the UK on a 3x3 rotation with huge potential to move up the ladder with my background, with Diamond Drilling.
