SKILLS
ABOUT SEAN MCLAUGHLIN
My work life has ranged from acting in an advisory role during many years with professional services firms, through to that of Managing Director in a trading business. I am skilled in Corporate Finance Advisory (Fundraising and M&A) and I also undertake long term Non-Executive roles. You cant do any of these without understanding what a business strategy needs to look like. Despite my corporate finance background don\'t mistake me for a bean counter. My focus in an NED or board advisor role is usually more about defining and delivering a business strategy that can provide long term shareholder value and/or which manages the big systemic changes we face in our business lives. That sounds a bit \"corporate speak\" doesn\'t it? In plain English its about creating and maintaining a decent bottom line. That is delivered through recognising and managing risk, having the right strategy and then making sure it is delivered well. Board meetings are an important part of corporate governance but I am not looking for NED or board advisory roles which involve a once a month meeting. I am much more interested in roles where I can help the executive team deliver either through regular support or, where useful, carrying out some hands on project work. I am relatively sector agnostic but particularly enjoy Marine, Renewable Energy and Manufacturing businesses and those which have a focus on delivering our low carbon future. That\'s not just a socially driven focus, its based on a lots of experience in Renewable Energy (particularly Offshore Wind), Green tech, Manufacturing and Marine Engineering. Focussing on our green future is important for us and for our children but its also a really interesting business opportunity. Ignore it at your peril!Oh and fun. Yes I do enjoy what I do and I like to work with people who don\'t take life and themselves too seriously. I try not to do that and sometimes I succeed.
