ABOUT SEAN SUE FIELD

My dad has owned a gym since I was eight years old. The gym was my personal playground as a child, swinging on the pull-up bars, running around on the turf, and lifting weights. Although the gym was my playground, it also became a part of my work life. Very early on, I began working for my dad as the smoothie boy. I\'d make protein-packed smoothies and deal with clients wanting a refreshing post-workout smoothie like the “Trapzilla.” All while doing this, I\'d watch over my dad coaching numerous clients. He\'d articulate the movements, their functions, and display them with great enthusiasm and passion. I\'d watch him transform clients who couldn\'t even move when they first arrived, leaving them capable of running around once again. I\'d see him take humble athletes with passions to compete at the next level and give them just that. As I got older, I learned more and more about training, so much so that I began coaching as an assistant from 12 to 16 years old. Eventually, I began coaching full-time by myself, working with groups of up to 12 people. I saw the faces of these numerous clients pursuing improvement. I\'d watch as their faces curled in determination as they got that last rep, then swelled into a sweaty smile post-workout. Being able to work with these individuals made me realize just how much I love to help others, especially when it comes to their own personal improvement.Which is exactly why I’m pursuing psychology. I have the ability to physically improve oneself, but I want to make a deeper impact, one that’s even more lasting. Now, one joke I often hear when people learn about my double major in marketing and psychology is, “Ahh, the psychology major is to manipulate us into purchasing your products.” Although it is indeed a funny insight, I actually pursued marketing simply because of how in-depth marketing can become. By analyzing purchases and spending habits, you\'re able to learn a great deal about an individual. It acts as a lens into the psyche of the consumer. This lens allows me to better customize a good and determine what a consumer may want. So no, I can\'t manipulate people into buying products, but I can attempt to find products and improve products that are more desirable to one’s psychological needs and wants. Just as I would customize a client\'s workout to fit their goals and needs in the gym! That said, I have plenty more to learn and I can’t wait to see what else I can do to help improve the lives of others.
