ABOUT SCOTT DEITCHMAN
I\'m currently pursuing my commitment to public health as a consultant in the prevention of waterborne diseases, especially preventing outbreaks related to plumbing systems and cooling towers (think of Legionnaires\' disease!). I also continue my work to develop and teach crisis leadership skills among health responders.I recently transitioned after a full career with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where I was an Assistant Surgeon General in the United States Public Health Service holding the rank of rear admiral. I\'m a physician, residency trained and board certified in two specialties: occupational and environmental medicine; and preventive medicine. In my last CDC position I led preparedness for, and reponses to, chemical, radiological, and natural disasters. I was CDC\'s incident commander for major public health responses to crises such as the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, and the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in 2011. I also led teams in our responses to infectious disease emergencies including the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic and the 2001 anthrax attack. When not working I enjoy hiking, backpacking and amateur radio. Look for me on the trails.
