About Scott W. Neuman
Fate has a funny way of stepping in.I lost a friendly wager on a Stanford Football game, and as a consequence, was forced to enroll in Computer Science 101 as an undergraduate. Despite my expectations, I loved the class and went on to become a software engineer in the Silicon Valley after graduation from Stanford. After four years as an engineer, I wanted to refine my speaking and writing skills and set sail for Harvard Law.I credit Harvard Law with introducing me to my wife and helping me recognize my career goals: leading businesses looking to change the world. I credit my subsequent years consulting at McKinsey with giving me the foundational business toolkit and team management skills I needed to realize these goals.Today, I advise entrepreneurs, boards, investors, and utilities/retailers on the energy transition. I relish sharing my experiences, mistakes, and network both to hone GTM, product, and m&a strategies and to boost operational rigor. I recently stepped back as CEO of Kaluza when we raised $100M at a $500M valuation in 2024. Kaluza is leading SaaS platform that brings intelligent automation and agility to energy utilities, providing the tools they need to actively engage customers and reduce their carbon emissions and energy costs. Kaluza’s world-leading flexibility technology is also primed to solve escalating grid volatility challenges, as recently seen in California and Texas, through its vehicle-to-grid smart charging innovation and intelligent demand response. Previously, I sat on the executive team for Oracle’s Utilities LOB and served as the Senior Vice President leading the Opower business. In that capacity, I oversaw the sales, support, and delivery of the Opower solutions. I joined Oracle via their acquisition of Opower, a fast-growing U.S. tech company helping utilities and their end customers accelerate decarbonization. At Opower, I oversaw much of the work that prompted our IPO, took point on Oracle’s sales & marketing due diligence, and managed large organizations spanning strategy, presales, and operations. At the end of the day, I believe in smart bets, not safe bets. It\'s that thinking that has guided my engagement with companies and investors of all stages, from start-ups and VCs through IPOs and PE. I like to network with others who share my passion for crafting the right strategy and execution plans to boldly change the world for the better.
