About Scott van der Sluys
Achieving a synergy of beautiful and functional has always intrigued me. While most people try to separate left-brained and right-brained roles — creative vs. logical, design vs. development — I see them as one. There is an artistry required to write aesthetic, readable, consistent code. Every calculation, interaction, and association is part of a larger picture. Likewise, there is something very technical about what makes an image, an interface, or a combination of words elicit an emotional response from a person. A little too much red, a few pixels off, or the wrong adjective, and the result is a completely different experience than what was intended. I have been designing UIs since the days when DOS-based BBSs were king and the palette consisted of 16 colors. I grew up with the ever-changing design tools and trends, and have been working with front-end web technologies since the late 1990s. I have spent the majority of my adult life immersed in all stages of the product life cycle from UX discovery and research, through design and development while creating enterprise-level, high-quality, front-end applications with pixel-perfect implementations. Given my history with design and engineering, and my education in writing and filmmaking, I enjoy challenging and creative endeavors, where I can contribute to, learn from, and be a part of a motivated and passionate group of people. Whether I\'m focusing on UX, design, engineering, or some combination of the former, I strive to be mindful, resourceful, and impactful.
