Since the 1990s, I’ve been passionate about helping communities solve their challenging technical and financial solid waste and recycling issues.As a manager at Burns & McDonnell, I provide consulting and engineering services for clients to advance their solid waste, recycling and utility programs. Services include strategic and business planning, financial feasibility and cost of service, procurement and contract negotiations, operational reviews and facility permitting and construction.Throughout my career, I’ve worked with local and regional government entities on hundreds of projects across the U.S. Highlights include: • Maximizing Recycling: Guided multiple clients in evaluating and implementing programs to increase recycling; areas of focus include single-stream, commercial, composting and conversion technologies. • Procurements and Contract Negotiations: Authored best management practice guidebook on procurement. Managed more than 40 solid waste and recycling procurements representing local governments for collection, recycling processing, and disposal operations.• Ensuring Financial Integrity: Completed more than 50 financial feasibility and cost of service studies for solid waste clients. My efforts to implement operational changes have saved cities tens of millions of dollars.• Planning and Building Systems: Completed multiple master plans and infrastructure projects focused on MRFs, composting facilities, transfer stations, emerging technologies, and landfills.I currently serve as the Director for SWANA\'s Planning and Management Technical Division and on the Editorial Advisory Board for MSW Management. I’m also a member of the Texas Municipal Solid Waste and Resource Recovery Advisory Council.
