About Scott Tashman
Dr. Tashman is currently the Director of Biomedical Engineering at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) in Vail Colorado, where he has overseen research focusing on orthopaedic biomechanics, dynamic in vivo movement and tissue function and advanced imaging for characterizing musculoskeletal tissue structure since 2016. From 2006 to 2016, Dr. Tashman served as the Director of the Biodynamics Laboratory and Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, with secondary appointments in Bioengineering and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously, he ran the Gait Analysis Laboratory at Newington Children’s Hospital in Hartford, CT from 19••••87, where he helped to develop and then ran one of the first automated, 3D video-motion analysis systems. He earned a PhD in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 1992, and then directed the Motion Analysis Laboratory at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI from 19••••06, where he developed the first dynamic biplane radiographic imaging system for musculoskeletal studies. His primary areas of expertise are in vivo, dynamic assessment of joint function and musculoskeletal modeling. His research has focused on the relationships between neuromuscular function and the development and treatment of musculoskeletal injury/disease, including neuromuscular disorders (cerebral palsy), spinal cord injury, ligament/meniscus injury, osteoarthritis and disorders of the cervical and lumbar spine. Since joining SPRI, he has also worked closely with the Center for Regenerative and Personalized Medicine, contributing to study design, managing clinical trials and providing advanced outcomes assessments for a variety of innovative regenerative medicine therapies. His work is primarily translational, working together with orthopaedic surgeons and other scientists on in vivo human studies to improve knowledge, diagnosis and treatment of human musculoskeletal injury/disease.
