About Scott Stickney
At this point in my life, I would prove to be quite a conundrum. I am a bow-tie brandishing, beekeeping academic who raises chickens and racing pigeons who would rather be teaching Environmental Studies through literature while hiking the Appalachian Trail or teaching pioneering skills while retracing the route of Lewis & Clark in a canoe from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean, or teaching Latin Literature and Roman Studies in situ somewhere in Europe. I am a paradox - an educator who loves teaching, but dislikes the confines of the traditional classroom. What I need is change. Not only that, I need to affect change. Both drive me to learn more, create more and achieve more in my work. I am flexible and a bit quixotic in nature as I currently strive to make things better in the field of education, a setting that is not always flexible nor quixotic. I am not easily defined because I have an adversity to formalism, have the ability to comprehensively think laterally in a vertical-thinking profession and share a different aesthetic perception to empower students, teachers and administrators and transform the way education works.
