SHAFFER\'S HIGH SIERRA CAMPScott and his wife Lisa started Shaffer\'s High Sierra Camp in The Camp is located in California\'s Tahoe National Forest and is for children aged 8 to 17. The Camp is independent and family-owned. It is not affiliated with any religious or other group, but is accredited by the American Camp Association and is a member of the Western Association of Independent Camps.The Camp offers many of the perennial summer camp favorites like archery, volleyball, pool, campfire, drama, and arts & crafts. But the Camp focuses on non-competitive wilderness adventure activities such as mountain biking, whitewater rafting, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain boarding, horseback riding, and kayaking, among other activities. It uses these activities and \"learning moments\" to help children take another step toward becoming healthy, happy, well-adjusted adults by acquiring skills in independence, socialization, and self-confidence/self-esteem.Though small at just 95 children at any one time, the Camp has drawn children and staff from every continent in the world, including Antarctica where a staff member has lived and worked.In 2010, Outside Magazine named Shaffer\'s High Sierra Camp as one of its five favorite camps in the country.Previously, Scott practiced law for 35 years, retiring in 2022.
