ABOUT SCOTT MASSON

Scott Masson is an experienced industrial and infrastructure projects lawyer. He is a leader in MLT Aikins’ Industrial and Infrastructure Projects Practice Group, having advised on projects with an estimated value of over $13 billion in over his 12 years of experience. He is passionate about working with clients to help ensure their projects are completed on time, on budget and in a manner that achieves their strategic goals. Scott has extensive experience working with clients to plan, develop and negotiate contractual documentation for major projects in a variety of industries, with a particular emphasis on mining, oil and gas, energy, civil and public infrastructure, green power generation and transmission and carbon capture and sequestration. Scott brings particular expertise in helping clients evaluate and implement collaborative contracting models and has extensive experience helping clients develop integrated project teams and strategic partnerships. In addition, Scott assists clients with the following: • Planning major projects and selecting the appropriate delivery model best suited to achieve the client’s objectives. • Developing contractual documentation (including leveraging industry templates such as CCDC, RAIC, AIA, JTC, FIDIC etc. • Leading complex and multiparty negotiations in a practical and results driven manner. • Helping clients identify and manage legal risk when negotiating contracts based on counterparty documentation. Able to creatively manage risk within a contract and easily explain any residual risk to senior leadership. • Helping clients re-negotiate project documentation when a project is in trouble. • Developing templates, governance documentation and training materials to better enable clients to complete their contracts in an effective and cost efficient manner.
