Since 2005 Scott has been employed by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment as a Senior Hydrogeologist/Climate Change Vulnerability Specialist. For the last 10 years he has been working on various projects involving climate change adaptation and water resources. Projects include evaluation of water monitoring networks for climate change, watershed vulnerability assessment, adaptation planning, monitoring and assessment and planning for flood and drought under a changing climate.

The first priority is to mitigate. The emissions of greenhouse gases must be reduced, carbon must remain in the ground, a new low carbon economy and culture has to be developed. But we have been too slow to mitigate and our climate is now changing. How the water cycle behaved in the past can no longer tell us how it will behave in the future. As a water resources professional I have focussed on the monitoring, assessment and planning for the possible changes to water quantity and quality. It is a fascinating and quickly evolving field that ranges from GCMs to robust decision-making. We must not only adapt to a changing climate but also to a very different way of how we do things. I want to be a part of discovering those very different ways.
