ABOUT SCOTT LANKFORD

Scott Lankford is the president of Lankford Design Group, the company he founded in 1998. The firm is based in Traverse City, Michigan. He is a graduate of Minneapolis College of Art and Design where he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial design. While attending college he worked as a product designer for Ergotron, a company that designed ergonomic computer peripherals.Lankford began his interior design career in 1987 in Petoskey, Michigan where he worked for a large kitchen and interior design firm. Before founding his own business his career also included stints with design firms in Birmingham, Michigan and Traverse City.In creating Lankford Design Group, he pursued a unique business model for home interiors, hybridizing traditional interior design and traditional kitchen design into one specialty and focusing on bringing in projects on time and on budget. Lankford’s kitchens are known as spaces that harmonize and enhance the home’s architectural features. Many of his designs emphasize the use of kitchen furniture, custom cabinetry and other unique detailing to enhance a room’s beauty yet provide his clients with spaces that work.Lankford also offers a full range of commercial design for businesses that want to integrate their company’s brand into every aspect of their businesses interior and want a business space that works efficiently, effectively and has a positive impact on customers and employees. Among his best known commercial design projects in Traverse City are the interiors of Allure Salon, Jenkins Group headquarters and the Red Mesa Grill. Further restaurant design work has been done for new franchisees of the local Grand Traverse Pie Company.Originally from Chicago, Lankford lived in Wisconsin and Minnesota before moving to Michigan. He and his family live on the historic Armour Estate on Long Lake near downtown Traverse City.
