ABOUT SCOTT HAJOST

Scott Hajost is the Managing Director of the Global Wildlife Whistleblower Program at the National Whistleblower Center and Senior Strategic Adviser to the Natural Heritage institute. Prior to these roles, he was Chief of Party for the USAID funded global Wildlife Crime Tech Challenge. Before, that he was Chief of Party for the USAID funded global climate Forest Carbon, Markets and Communities (FCMC). He is an expert in international conservation /environmental law and policy with over 30 years of experience. He is an international lawyer by training and was a treaty negotiator while at the US State Department, responsible for wildlife conservation, oceans, environment and polar affairs. While at US EPA, he was top manager for international affairs an a member of the Senior Executive Service. After leaving the US government, he was International Counsel at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a leading US NGO, directed its international portfolio and played a lead role in the Rio Earth Summit. Subsequently for many years, he was the Executive Director of IUCN US, where he managed UN affairs,helped oversee IUCN\'s global policy work, developed IUCN’s global marine program, initiated IUCN\'s climate work and was part of IUCN\'s central management team. He was Senior Counsel to the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) where his focus was on international biodiversity policy and the CBD and climate change. He is also Vice-Chair of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition (ASOC). He serves as senior adviser to the Global Islands Partnership (GLISPA). He is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the US IUCN National Committee. He serves on IUCN law, ecosystems, protected areas and communications Commissions.
