   Responsible for the build out of South Carolina’s Operational Due Diligence program that oversees corporate governance, operational processes, and compliance controls for plan asset classes: Equity (US and Global), Credit (Corporate, Sovereign, Bank Loans, and Structured), Real Estate (Funds and Directs) and Private Equity (Buyout, Secondary, and Venture). • Provide investment experience and expertise to monitor operational and regulatory issues affecting our external managers and plan allocation initiatives. • Conduct manager due diligence meetings with CFO’s, COO’s, CCO’s, and senior staff of prospective and existing investment firms to properly assess organizational structure, culture, and tone. • Detailed focus on the review of manager policies and procedures: trading policies, valuation of securities, internal and external committee oversight, cash controls, books and records, operating manuals, business continuity plan and testing, and counterparty risk management. • Review fund investment terms and fees alongside the Investment and Legal Team to flag off market structures. • Produce detailed report of findings for presentation to the Commissioners and Investment Committee that captures firm structure, service providers, manager responses, offering documents, regulatory filings, financials, trade flow, NAV processes, valuation procedures, risk management, and compliance. • Analyze prospective joint ventures, data/risk providers, hedge fund platforms, strategic partnerships and investment vehicles (SMA, commingled, and fund of one). • Collaborate with Risk Management to identify, address, and monitor operational risks and the effectiveness of South Carolina’s risk management controls. • Monitor market developments, industry trends, and regulatory matters that could impact the alternative universe. • Manage investment operational department personnel on the controls and processes related to account procedures, guideline changes, and timely settlement.
