Policy lead on nature conservation policy for SEPA: Scottish Biodiversity Strategy, Habitats Regulations Assessments and Appropriate Assessments, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and the interaction of these with environmental regulation, River Basin Management Planning and Flood Risk Management Planning.Other areas covered include wider biodiversity policy issues - Nature Networks, invasive non-native species (INNS), ecosystem services, and the development of policy, guidance and procedures on designated sites and biodiversity for SEPA\'s environmental permitting role.I was the SEPA lead contact for the Stirling City Region Deal (SEPA\'s first Sustainable Growth Agreement with a local authority)l, working closely with Stirling and Clackmannan Councils to define and deliver objectives, proposals and metrics for a 21st Century city region living within planetary constraints.I have developed and managed many research projects for SEPA and through the Scotland and Northern Ireland Forum for Environmental Research. The most significant and successful has been the Air Pollution Information System a UK multi-agency partnership decision-support system providing pollution-specific air pollution standards for the protection of habitat and species. I was the co-lead and developer of the initial concept for Scotland\'s Environment website and worked in the SEPA team that delivered the SEWeb platform through an EU LIFE+ funded project worth 5.9 million Euros ecological specialisms include metal contamination of marine & estuarine fish (esp. mercury), estuarine & saltmarsh ecology, esp. fish & nekton, seaweed conservation (the recording & conservation of a Scottish Priority Marine Feature, the rare marine alga Ascophyllum nodosum ecad mackayi).
