As Scientific Outreach Officer, I am responsible for enhancing and delivering various scientific and educational outreach initiatives that support IQC’s strategic objectives of raising awareness about quantum information science and technology to a broad national audience, including but not limited to high school teachers, prospective graduate students, and the general public. My responsibilities include the delivery of material for workshops, hands-on activities, and online content for students and teachers to convey the complex subject of quantum information in clear, simple, and digestible terms.

ABOUT FIONA THOMPSON
I completed a BSc in Chemistry (Honours) at the University of Victoria, a Certificate in Dance Education at the Royal Academy of Dance, and an MSc in Chemistry (Quantum Information) at the University of Waterloo. My scientific research background is in semiconductor-superconductor heterostructures for applications in topological quantum computing. My doctoral research in the English Department at UWaterloo focuses on the rhetoric of science, especially as it relates to best practices for communicating about emergent quantum technologies.I have over a decade of public speaking and instructional experience, including extensive outreach work with children, university students, and professionals. I am also the former Editor-in-Chief of Acta Victoriana, the oldest university publication in Canada. Right now, I work at the Institute for Quantum Computing as the Scientific Outreach Officer!
