ABOUT SCARLETT SCOVILLE

I am a Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) teacher at Jones County High School in Gray, Georgia, where I lead the Computer Science – Programming Pathway. My work centers on preparing students for real-world success in technology by combining rigorous instruction, project-based learning, and industry-aligned certifications. Through courses including Introduction to Software Technology, Computer Science Principles, and Programming, Games, Apps, and Society, I guide students from foundational skills to advanced problem-solving, culminating in their preparation for the Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer (PCEP) certification. In my classroom, branded as Greyhound Tech, students operate in a business-like environment where they take on roles as “Interns,” “Junior Developers,” and “Senior Developers.” Using Agile methodologies, students collaborate in teams, participate in daily stand-ups, deliver projects, and engage in weekly retrospectives, mirroring professional software development practices. I am passionate about- Building pathways that connect classroom learning to college, career, and industry opportunities - Gamifying learning to boost engagement and ownership - Creating structured systems that emphasize both technical proficiency and professional behavior - Partnering with organizations like Georgia Tech’s Rural Computer Science Initiative to expand student access to cutting-edge tools, including robotics and automation Ultimately, my goal is to empower students to see themselves not just as learners, but as emerging professionals capable of thriving in the fast-evolving tech industry.
