About Steven Funk
I am a white collar professional with a blue collar work ethic. Growing up in a blue collar household allowed me to learn use of limited resources, value of a dollar and a strong work ethic. Starting at a young age, I have had a listening and reading comprehension learning disability that made it difficult to absorb information in a classroom setting. As time passed, I started to caddy at the local country club. This job allowed me to learn by experience rather than a traditional classroom setting. After many experiences in caddying, I had learned how to effectively socialize with business executives and their guests. Trial and error experiences let me learn how to retain knowledge effectively. As a result of trial and error experiences, it allowed me to learn how to effectively retain knowledge and mentor less experienced caddies to be successful.I am the first from my household to go to college and earn a bachelor’s degree. It was not 100% affordable for my family to send me for four years. An opportunity to be a Resident Assistant was presented to me by a friend, whose team was in need of a strong leader. Upon acceptance, I have received room and board for free, which allowed me to save about $20k. This pre-professional occupation enabled my maturity level to grow faster along with learning a set of problem solving skills.A couple weeks before graduation, I had secured a Regulatory Reporting position at the world’s largest custody bank. Quite frankly, I did not know nor understand what I was supposed to do in this role. What has worked for me in the past was to experience success and failure head on. My knowledge came from strong mentors and managers, who allowed me to make ideas a reality. I plan to use my subject matter expertise in a front office position in the financial sector. My life experiences are a direct result from growing personally and professionally. Ultimately, I will be a CEO or CFO that will lead an organization to success.
