ABOUT SAM BERGH
I build and scale engineering organizations that take deep-tech hardware from first prototype to thousands of connected units in the field — uniting AI/ML, robotics, and manufacturing rigor under one roof.At Halio, I co-founded and scaled a dynamic-glass company from seed through Series D (>$400M raised). I built/managed a 100+ person multi-disciplinary org with mechanical, EE, embedded firmware, computer vision, cloud, data science, PM, manufacturing, and customer success — eliminating handoff friction and aligning hardware, software, and AI roadmaps to a shared release cadence. We stood up a Taiwan factory from ground-break to revenue in 16 months (achieved 90%+ yield, Cpk ≥1.4, NREL-certification), shipped 17 product releases in 36 months, delivered thousands of connected devices across the US, EU, Middle East, and Japan, reaching 99%+ uptime, and productionized anomaly-detection ML against live telemetry to cut MTTR 20% and reduce warranty exposure. Marquee customers included Gensler, Foster + Partners, Viracon, and Glassbel. Before Halio, as VP Engineering at Symyx Technologies, I led 60+ scientists and engineers delivering 100+ automated high-throughput robotic platforms to enterprise R&D customers — an early chapter in what has become the self-driving lab — and helped take the company from startup through IPO to profitable enterprise.I\'m currently advising Automat Inc. on robotics, software, and ML-accelerated materials discovery for lithium battery electrolytes. What I bring to an executive role: • Building and leading multi-disciplinary engineering orgs (mechanical, EE, embedded, CV/AI, cloud, data) under one release cadence • Lab-to-fab execution — R&D → product → global manufacturing → fleet operations at scale • AI/ML applied to real hardware problems — self-driving labs, high-throughput experimentation, fleet anomaly detection • Tier 1 B2B delivery, global ops, DFM, cost-down, and capital-light supply chain design • Series A→D fundraising support, IP and corporate strategy, 73 granted U.S. patentsPh.D. Electrical Engineering, UC Santa Barbara • B.S. EE, UC San DiegoOpen to CTO, COO, VP/SVP Engineering, and GM roles in robotics, AI-driven R&D platforms, connected hardware, advanced materials, and climate/energy deep-tech. s••••••••@gmail.com
