ABOUT SAM BAHARVAND
Sam is a Water Resources Engineer and Data Scientist working with Graham Associates, Inc. as a Hydrologist (Full-Time) and with the University of Texas at Arlington as an Associate Researcher (Part-Time). He specializes in flood mitigation, detention/retention pond design, FEMA studies, sediment and scour analysis, and watershed-scale hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. With a strong background in water resources, environmental, and ecological engineering, Sam integrates scientific insight with engineering solutions to manage stormwater and improve resilience against flooding. His research focuses on the interactions between hydrology, hydraulics, and aquatic ecosystems, particularly through modeling sediment and contaminant transport in natural streams and developing Habitat Suitability Index maps. He has also applied computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and physical modeling to design hydro-environmental structures such as fishways. In addition, Sam has explored remote sensing and machine learning approaches for water resources applications, including drought assessment and evapotranspiration modeling. He recently contributed to TxDOT Project No. 0-7023, developing Python-based ArcGIS Pro models for sediment transport analysis.
