Savannah integrated her knowledge of anthropology with her passion for photography in 2017 when she founded the Photography Ethics Centre with the aim of promoting ethical literacy in the photography industry. ABOUT SAVANNAH DODD
Savannah Dodd, PhD, is an anthropologist and photographer. She founded the Photography Ethics Centre in 2017 with the aim of raising awareness about the ethics of making and sharing photographs. Today, she is dedicated to advancing ethical literacy, visual literacy, and media literacy. Her work spans across all forms photo-realistic visual media, inclusive of photography, video, VR, and AI.Savannah holds an ESRC/NINE-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and Politics at Queen\'s University Belfast (QUB). She previously held an ESRC-funded Practitioner\'s Appointment in the QUB Centre for Creative Ethnography. Her academic contributions include publications in numerous peer-reviewed journals and an edited volume titled \"Ethics and Integrity in Visual Research Methods,\" published with Emerald Publishing Group in June 2020. Her PhD research explored the processes of archiving Troubles-era photographs in post-conflict Northern Ireland. Savannah is a member of the Ethical Journalism Network’s UK Committee, of the board of Source Magazine, and of the EDI Advisory Panel at Photo Museum Ireland. She previously sat on the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Rural Deliberative Forum and on the Ethics Panel for the Environmental Photographer of the Year Award. Her work has been featured in the Belfast Telegraph, Newtownards Chronicle, Feature Shoot, Amateur Photographer, and PetaPixel. She has been interviewed on BBC Radio 3, Dublin City FM, Documentary Storytellers Podcast, and The Beginner Photography Podcast. She has been quoted in Artnet and The New Statesman, among others. In 2021, Savannah was recognised as one of the UK\'s most inspirational female entrepreneurs by Small Business Britain\'s #ialso100 campaign.
