About Satish C. Rao
I am a neurologist-neuroscientist trained at the Mayo Clinic, triple boarded (neurology, clinical neurophysiology/EEG, sleep medicine) and have expertise in clinical development, medical affairs & digital biomarkers.I practiced epileptology, sleep medicine & general neurology for 18 years and have experience in clinical development and medical affairs in both small biotechnology and large pharma settings. In regards to my biotechnology experience, I was the former CEO and founder of Olivecell. Olivecell was an audio-video digital biomarker company. The digital biomarkers were discovered with artificial intelligence. The biomarker products were developed for neuropsychiatric disorders with a focus on Parkinson’s disease. I lead all clinical development plans at Olivecell. The IP and technology were acquired in 2021.After the exit, I transitioned into medical affairs at Takeda Pharmaceuticals as head of epilepsy in the US and then promoted to the head of orexin for US medical affairs. This has given me broad exposure to both clinical development and medical affairs activity required from phase 2-4 to drug launch. This includes leading the creation of the medical launch plan of oveporexton.Lastly, I have a background in biomedical research and academic neurology. This includes hands-on experience with DNA sequencing as a Howard Hughes Medical Fellow, molecular neuroscience research in spinal cord injury during my master’s degree, and multiple research projects and publications in clinical neurology, epilepsy/EEG, and sleep medicine.
