ABOUT SATCHAL AMINUDDIN

I\'m an Actuarial Team Lead with Pricing experience in both Commercial and Personal Lines, a strong business acumen and exceptional leadership skills. HOW I GOT HEREI started off my first year of undergraduate studies at York University, initially thinking I would be interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy. Early in my first semester, I realized that I enjoyed math and stats a lot more than biology so I transferred over to UofT\'s Actuarial Science program the following year. Entering the actuarial field was not an easy task but I persisted. During my last semester at UofT, I joined the Underwriting team at Echelon Insurance. Having learned a great deal about the insurance industry and personal lines products in my underwriting role, I was able to transfer over to Echelon\'s Actuarial team and complete my first actuarial internship shortly after graduation.After my internship at Echelon, I joined Segal\'s Retirement Actuarial team. This was a great opportunity for me to diversify my skillset and experience the difference between the SOA and CAS sides of the actuarial paths. Following my role at Segal, I had the opportunity to work on the Commercial Pricing team at Wawanesa Insurance, the Personal Insurance Rate Adequacy team at Definity, and now the Technical Pricing and Price Modelling teams at Aviva. WHAT I DO NOW• Serve as an Actuarial Team Lead on the Personal Insurance Price Modelling team at Aviva Canada where I teach, mentor, and coach junior staffMORE ABOUT ME• I love commercial lines because the products vary significantly and the lack of credible data gives me the opportunity to rely on my judgement when solving problems• I also like personal lines because the homogeneity of the risks as well as the abundance of credible data allows you to test out some pretty cool predictive modelling projects• I\'m always eager to take on tasks that I\'ve never done before because I find them to be an excellent way of learning new things• While I enjoy teaching and hope to lecture part time on the side, my current focus is to pass my actuarial exams and become a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society
