Indian Institute of Technology Patna is one of the new IITs established by an act of parliament on August 06, 2008. IIT Patna has three schools – (1) School of Engineering consisting of the following Departments namely, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering (2) School of Basic Sciences consisting of Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics Departments (3) School of Humanities consisting of Humanities & Social Science Department. The institute has developed modern facilities that are fully equipped with state of the art machines and technologies to run the following programs- B.Tech in five Departments such as Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Chemistry- M.Tech in multi-disciplinary streams in eight specializations namely (1) Mechatronics,(2) Mathematics & Computing,(3) Nano Science & Technology,(4) Computer Science and Engineering,(5) Communication System Engineering offered by Department of Electrical Engineering,(6) Mechanical Engineering,(7) Civil and Infrastructure Engineering and (8) Materials Science and Engineering- PhD programs in all the 10 departments and 3 centers of excellence:(a) Engineering departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering (b) Basic Science departments: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics,(c) Humanities and Social Sciences,(d) Centre for Energy and Environment, Centre for Advanced Systems Engineering and Centre for Strategic Materials IIT Patna has more than 150 research papers published in refereed international journals and more than 100 papers presented in national/international conferences during 20••••11.
